How to Use Earplugs Correctly: Protect Your Ears Safely

For foam earplugs, roll them between your fingers into a tight, crease-free cylinder.

For silicone or wax, mold the earplug to fit the shape of your ear canal opening.

4. Pull Your Ear Up and Back

Gently reach over your head with the opposite hand and pull your outer ear upward and backward.

This straightens the ear canal for easier insertion.

5. Insert the Earplug

Slowly and gently insert the rolled or molded earplug into your ear canal.

For foam plugs, hold in place for 20–30 seconds until they expand and fill the canal.

6. Check the Fit

The earplug should feel snug but not painful.

Noise should be noticeably reduced, but you should still hear some ambient sounds for safety.

If it feels uncomfortable or falls out easily, remove it and try again.
