Rinse the chestnuts under cold water to remove dirt.
Using a sharp knife, carefully cut a small “X” on the flat side of each chestnut. This prevents them from bursting during cooking.
2. Microwave
Place the chestnuts on a microwave-safe plate.
Cover them with a damp paper towel. This helps keep the chestnuts moist and prevents them from drying out.
Microwave on high for 2–3 minutes for a small batch (adjust time depending on quantity and microwave strength).
3. Check and Repeat if Needed
Test one chestnut by peeling it carefully. If it’s tender and the shell peels easily, they’re done.
If not, microwave in additional 30-second increments until fully cooked.
4. Peel and Serve
Allow chestnuts to cool slightly.
Peel while warm, removing both the outer shell and the thin inner skin.
Enjoy as a snack or add to recipes like stuffing, soups, or desserts.
